Nonprobate Assets

Much of a modern estate never passes through the probate court. This segment covers Washington’s nonprobate assets — beneficiary designations, joint tenancy with right of survivorship, payable-on-death and transfer-on-death accounts, and revocable living trusts — how each transfers outside the probate estate, how they coordinate (or conflict) with a will, and the practical pitfalls for personal representatives and beneficiaries.
